This collage presents three women surrounded by words commonly used to describe women. The last word, “uncompensated,” describes how women are treated in society: they do much of the labor, but receive none of the recognition. “Walk away from the broken promise; walk on into your own,” urges women to be who they want to be, not who society wants them to be. In our patriarchal society, women are often promised that being wives and mothers will lead to ultimate fulfillment, but that doesn’t apply to every woman and can become an empty promise for some.
